Circulating tumor cells might bind endothelial hCLCA2, crosslinking α6β4 and inducing EGFR clustering. Integrin-induced EGFR clustering enhances EGF-mediated activation of Rho, which is known to be involved in processes leading to cell motility and invasion. Clustered EGFR might favor directed motility towards EGF in the adjacent tissue.
