Selenite-induced apoptosis as determined by the Annexin-PI assay and effects of inhibition of apoptosis signalling enzymes. Cells in the lower left quadrant are viable, those in the lower right quadrant are early apoptotic, and those in the upper quadrants are late apoptotic or necrotic. Early apoptosis in epithelioid (C) and sarcomatoid cells (D) before and after exposure to selenite for 24 h. Three independent experiments are shown. Two-way ANOVA with Dunnett's post test was performed to determine statistical significance between cells treated with selenite only and selenite with the respective inhibitors.
