Protocol of a definitive 5-fluorouracil/cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy. One course of treatment consisted of protracted venous infusions of 5-fluorouracil (400 mg/m2/day for days 1-5 and 8-12) and cisplatin (40 mg/m2/day on days 1 and 8), and radiation (2 Gy/day on days 1-5, 8-12, and 15-19), with a second course (days 36-56) repeated after a 2-week interval.
