  1. aA stepwise method was used to select the optimal multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model. Slug and Ubc9 expression was designated as ‘high’ or ‘low’ using “50% and 60% immunoreactivity in the tumor sections” as the respective cut-off values (low Slug and low Ubc9 as the references). The results were adjusted according to sex (female as the reference vs. male), histological type (squamous cell carcinoma as the reference vs. adenocarcinoma), tumor size (≤ 3 cm as the reference vs. > 3 cm), and tumor stage.
