CoQ0 attenuates mammosphere formation and colony formation in triple-negative breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells. a-b CoQ0 attenuates mammosphere formation. Cells were treated with CoQ0 (0.5–2 μM) or vehicle control (0.1% DMSO) for 14 days. b The cell growth and mammosphere formation were analyzed by MTT assay and mammosphere formation assay, respectively. c CoQ0 inhibits colony formation ability. Cells were assayed for their ability to proliferate and form colonies in the presence of CoQ0 (0.5–2 μM) and were incubated 5 days. The percentage of colony formation was calculated by defining the number of colonies in the absence of CoQ0 as 100%. d-j Human breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231-Brain (d), MDA-MB-231-Brain-erb2 (e), MDA-MB-231-Bone (f), MDA-MB-231-Bone-erb2 (g), BT549 (h), Hs578T (i), MCF-7 (j), and BT474 (k) were treated with CoQ0 (2.5–20 μM) or vehicle control (0.1% DMSO) for 24 h. The cell viability was determined by MTT colorimetric assay. The results are presented as the mean ± SD of three independent assays. **p < 0.05, ***p < 0.001 significant compared to control cells
