Schematic model of the role of TRα1/Sp1 pathway in the regulation of UHRF1. a. Abnormalities in T3/TRa1 pathway result in increasing of Sp1 binding to UHRF1 promoter causing its activation. UHRF1 overexpression suppresses the expression of p21 gene with subsequent cell proliferation and metastasis. b. Exposure of TR-expressing cells to T3 induces a decrease in Sp1 binding to UHRF1 promoter causing its inactivation.
